Respond to spills/releases of oil or hazardous materials on a 24-hour basis.

Investigate high priority complaints.

Maintain Right-to-Know reportable information. (SARA/Title III).

Serve as staff to the State Emergency Response Commission and Homeland Security Commission.

Maintain Georgia Environmental Policy Act files.

Implement risk management provisions of the Air Quality Control Act.

Primary state responder to incidents at nuclear power plants.

Oversee remedial actions involving radioactive materials.

Maintain environmental radiation monitoring networks around commercial and defense nuclear facilities in or bordering Georgia.

Regulate the concentration, storage and disposal of radioactive waste material.

Provide radio-analytical laboratory support to EPD's drinking water and other regulatory programs.

Provide technical and scientific advice and assistance to the Director's office and other EPD programs.

Review risk assessments, health assessments, and other scientific publications that evaluate environmental health issues.

Coordinate interaction between state, district and county health departments and EPD.

Provide the analytical foundation for environmental compliance in all EPD regulatory programs.

Conduct chemical and microbiological tests to ensure compliance with State and Federal environmental laws and rules.

Comprise a multi-disciplinary, integrated laboratory complex capable of analyzing air, water, soil, and biota for a large number of constituents.

Work exclusively with EPD regulatory and monitoring personnel.

Provide educational materials and develop program to inform the public and the regulated community about environmental practices and responsibilities.

Collect and publish summaries of enforcement orders from throughout the Division.

Coordinate interactions between EPD outreach and education staff.

Investigates and reports on matters concerning adherence to the guidelines of Georgia EPD's Quality Management Plan.

Performs or delegates internal assessments of individual Branch compliance with the Quality Management Plan.

Coordinates how the Georgia Environmental Protection Division communicates to our citizens, regulated entities, and elected officials via computer and the Internet.

Responsible for coordinating the development and deployment of content that will motivate and inform users of the state of Georgia's environment.

Regulate use of radioactive materials other than at nuclear reactors.

Administer the Georgia Radiation Control Act.

License and inspect users of radioactive materials.

Primary state responder for incidents involving radioactive materials and radiation exposure at licensed facilities.

Member of emergency response team for incidents at nuclear power plants.

Inspect and assure compliance at facilities including hospitals, doctors offices, radiopharmacies, industrial radiography, colleges, universities, environmental laboratories, industrial plants with gauging devices, and consultants.

A Closer Look into the Radioactive Materials Program

Provide technical and scientific advice and assistance to small business on behalf of other EPD programs.

Conduct Permit Assistance On-site compliance assessment visits. (The visits allow a determination of compliance without the threat of enforcement actions.)

Represent small businesses on regulatory review and updates

Hold workshops and seminars on air regulations to trade and industry groups.

Aid in investigating and resolving complaints and disputes from small business against the Air Protection Branch

Develops and coordinates internal education and training courses.
